Dr. Anthony OwusuDr. Anthony Owusu is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery. His fellowship training was completed at the prestigious Texas Back Institute in Dallas. Before this advanced spinal training, he completed his orthopedic residency at the Medical College of Virginia and Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. Dr. Owusu has performed hundreds of spinal procedures and has published and presented industry-leading research in spine surgery. His peers and patients recognize him not only for his skill in surgery but also for his compassion and ever-positive bedside manner. He is the founder of Next Generation Orthopedic and Spine Institute.

Dr. Owusu is passionate about one-on-one patient care, treating each patient with respect and dignity. Before recommending surgery, patients will appreciate that he will first exhaust all conservative approaches. When surgery is recommended, Dr. Owusu utilizes the most effective, advanced, and minimally invasive techniques. Effective treatments and expedient recoveries are at the heart of what motivates Dr. Owusu. Numerous testimonials attest to patients’ instant connection and trust when seen in the clinic. Dr. James Carson

Dr. James Carson is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon. He received his undergraduate from the University of Michigan with a degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Spanish. He began his medical studies at Johns Hopkins University and earned a dual degree in Medicine and Public Health. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgical residency at Howard University and was fellowship-trained in hip and knee replacements at the University of Chicago. He has significant experience performing joint replacement but is extensively trained in treating the multitude of complications that can occur secondary to joint replacement..

Dr. Carson received his calling when he was still very young. He knew he wanted to go into orthopedic surgery while in high school because of his time in sports and exposure to the field as a patient. His decision to focus on joint replacement came while in medical school after completing a medical mission trip in which we replaced the hips and knees of multiple patients, restoring mobility and a lifetime of possibilities to so many people. He cherishes his family and enjoys spending time traveling with them to experience new cultures. He is fluent in both English and Spanish. Dr. Carson is a sports fanatic and a huge fan of all University of Michigan sports.

Colby Jackson | Office Manager

Next Generation’s office manager is Colby Jackson. Colby has over 14 years of experience in healthcare and has a lifelong passion for patients. As a former state policy liaison for Texas, she is well equipped with a wide variety of knowledge and expertise in healthcare administration. She has experience in working with all commercial, third-party payers, and workers’ comp as well as state and federal payers. When she’s not advocating on behalf of patients, she enjoys spending time with her three kids, scuba diving, and playing outdoor sports.

Nancy Dahlin

Next Generation’s lead clinician is Nancy Dahlin. Nancy joined Next Generation after moving to San Antonio from San Diego, following a four-year career in the US Navy. Nancy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Next Generation from her previous experience as a CNA and case manager in several primary and specialty care clinics. With an excellent military service record, Nancy brings order and discipline to the clinic and assists Dr. Owusu with all in-office procedures.
